D&D - Sword Coast - 'Kagaal's Offer'

Post by illumination on 6th August 2008, 6:17 am

Tomka exits the room and the door swings shut, only to be bolted
securely by Sorscha.

Wounded, depleted of magics and a little short of ideas you all rest for
a couple of hours, in the silence of Limnoch's redoubt. Saamech sits
cross-legged by the small fire, seemingly brooding about his partners
abandonment. In the early morning stirring of somewhat quieter,
less enthusiastic birds that herald dawn in the city of the dead, the
door to Limnoch's home rattles with a bang.

Then another...

Relief is felt by most at the sound of a living mans voice on the other
side.

'OPEN! In the name of BANE....'

Sorscha, you scramble to the door in a moment of realisation at the owner
of the voice...none other than the Lesser Imperceptor Kagaal, the
leading unimprisoned Banite in the city.

Moments later you blink startled eyes at the sunshine falling into the
crypt, and regard a man, alone before you. He seems unimpressive,
bookish even, and is dressed as a black skullcapped scholar of Oghma, a man of
thirty winters clad in a black cassock, no weapons, and small rimless
spectacles. He steps into the room with more presence that would be
appropriate in this room of scoundrels, only to Sorscha does it really
make sense.

He speaks in the calm, absolute terms of a natural orator and pays
Sorscha no acknowledgement, which leaves the cleric wondering if that
is a good or bad thing... she is quickly in the know...

'As you dont know me, I am Kaagal, a superior of this Acolyte whom
you know. It is perhaps, in your interest to hear what I have to say to
her, although if anyone desires it, they may leave.'

Without pausing or giving way in the doorway he continues...

'Acolyte, Mort, as you may know him has been captured.'

He raises his eyebrows at your reaction.

'What? you think I entrusted such a task to ONE junior cleric?'

'You have much to learn.'

Licking his lips, he continues to a audible moan of dissapointment from
Saamechs direction, which you feel was noted.

'There are two of you on the same mission, Acolyte Selrey is the other, and
he has succeeded in entrapping this Mort whom knew something of our
merchandise. Our inquisitor is still questioning that gang-leader but
already we have secured some valuable information...'

'It is your fortune, that Mort did not have the item itself, for then
you would have failed...'

'Failed me,......and failed Bane.'

He allows the consequences of that remark to home in for a moment.

'We know of the location of the Gem, it is being held in the Moondance
Shrine dedicated to Selune. Relatively well guarded but perhaps not beyond
your resourcefulness. You will need allies, a variety of trades to
have any chance of success. Your rival, Acolyte Selrey is currently
putting together his team.'

'The group that returns first to me, with the Gem shall be well
rewarded. For one, we now have the golden statue which Tomka and his
fellow outlaw stole as an inducement. That belongs to the the winners and is
quite valuble. As for other things, you may offer a share of the treasure you
plunder in the temple, and anything else you can think to offer,
Acolyte.'

Kagaal Smirks.

'Consider it a test of ability to gather and maintain allies, very
important in a hostile place like Waterdeep. You will need all
these here and more, a new warrior should be your first priority, as your
friend Tomka seems somewhat dissalusioned with your leadership as he is
now negotiating with Selrey for a place in his party. I would seek at least
one other as well...'

'Make your preparations well, do not go blindly, as if either of you
attack and fail to overwhelm them, they will surely move the Gem to the
temple of the Moon, and out of our reach.

'In that instance, I will consider the hasty Acolyte
culpable. You have much to do and think about, and no time to waste. I
wish you well, but do not fail me again.'

Kaagal glances over you all, finished with his strangely mesmorising
speech and bows his head, stepping back out of the doorway and shutting
the door gently.

You all look at each other, and wonder what to do...

((reply in any order, but try and allow folks you speak to time to
respond before posting again. cheers! ))

Sorscha runs her hands through her hair looking somewhat annoyed and paces back and forth for a few minutes, perhaps perturbed, perhaps waiting until Dreadmaster Kagaal is well out of earshot......

'Well, Bane has spoken. For those of you who wish to join me, I suggest we eliminate our opposition and then visit the Selunites........'

Saamech frowns, scratching his leg by the fireplace before spitting in it.

'Is that it? thats the motivational speech and promise of riches? In case you hadnt noticed sister, without our help, YOU'RE FUCKED...'

'Even more so than when the guy with the zweihander was about to take yer head off. So, I guess im speaking for all when I say this; the obvious question, the all important thing...'

'What's in it for us?'

Saamech settles back on his haunches with an interested look.

Sorscha eyes Saamech sceptically.

'Nothing other than what the Dreadmaster offered. You're not the only man with a blade in Waterdeep, perhaps others would prefer a share of that stolen loot you found yourself imprisoned for?'.

Soscha takes a few steps towards the door to emphasise her point

'Need I repeat?

'The group that returns first to me, with the Gem shall be well
rewarded. For one, we now have the golden statue which Tomka and his
fellow outlaw stole as an inducement. That belongs to the the winners and is
quite valuble. As for other things, you may offer a share of the treasure you
plunder in the temple'

I'm sure there'll be plenty to go around.

And I wouldn't boast so hard, as I recall you spent most of the fight hiding behind a bush, either Tomka or those zombies took care of our friend with the two handed sword, I didn't see which, and they're either destroyed or fled'.

"Yes... as our sorcerous companion says. Your service to Bane is commendable of course, yes. The Gods must be honoured, their favour sought. Yes? Yes."

Limnoch prattles along...

"But still, we are not all the followers of the Black Hand, oh no. I myself follow the teachings of Velsharoon, the Vaunted. I am for his service and his rewards are great. Yes. To this place he has led me, in his service and to do his work. To follow the will of the Black One, I would need to know my reward and how such work will aid the Lich Lord. Yes and his humble servant too."

Limnoch pulls out the skull of Slangsby. "Even to bring back this child of the Vaunted One, that is an expensive ritual. Yes... lost until coin can be found. A bad business. A bad one, yes. Tell me Daughter of Bane, how shall your cause advance mine?"

Sorscha addresses Limnoch and the group at large, a less confrontational tone in her voice;

'Well I can't offer what is not known - I've never been to the church of Selune.

However, raising your undead hordes back once more will honour the
Archmage of Necromancy'.

I will pledge that whatever is required to replace that which you have lost is given, and more, should Tymora favour us. If there is not enough present at our destination, then I will make up that shortfall from whatever I have.

To be blunt, there are items of value at our destination. They will be shared between those who are bold enough to venture forth. If you are not, then your share shall be shared between those who are.

The favour of an imperceptor of Bane is also not lightly gained, nor turned away'.

Chell listens to the senior Banite's summary of events silently whilst sitting on the floor with a wall to her back. Her hound lays by her feet, dozing. She toys absently with the ear she severed from one of the Red Hands.

"Don't know where Moon Bitch's temple is. Don't know much about Bane. Know that your chief has Mort, Bane's Bride. Want to ask Mort questions. Want to find one of his men. Gloveless man working with gloved men. Alive," she says in an even tone, smiling.

She grips the severed ear in one hand whilst wiping her cheek, rubbing some filth away absently. She rests a palm on Sister's head, looking thoughtful for once.

"Other warband beat us already. Got to Mort before us. Might get Bane's Bride's prize before us. Can track and crush them before they gain advantage."

Limnoch rests his hand on Slangsby's skull, cradling it somewhat, protectively, almost lovingly.

"I shall agree to lend to Bane my skills and the service of such of the Lich Lord's children as it pleases him to place under my command. Yes. This I shall do. Our patrons are not at odds I think, so there is no harm in this. We shall ally for a time and we shall see how furthering the cause of Bane can also further the cause of Velsharoon."

For a brief moment, the Necromancer appears more like some kind of religious zealot than a wizard, but the moment quickly passes.

Re: D&D - Sword Coast - 'Kagaal's Offer'

Post by illumination on 7th August 2008, 5:45 am

Saamech laughs, looking genuinely baffled from his positon by the dying fire.

'It amuses me that you listen so little to your superiors advice, and that you profess the notion that there ready replacements for any of us... In case you hadnt noticed, Tomka has already switched sides for a better deal...'

*Holds up a finger*

'Although, the idea of you trawling the waterdeep dock taverns looking for volunteers to sack a Selune shrine with you, in the name of Bane, presumably? - isnt without charm. But I would advise you to get down there early, they while some of them are still sober.'

*Chuckles and holds up a hand*

'But enough of that, the notion is a joke of course... we are business people after all. I suggest, for a fair settlement is that your payment comes out of this gems value first, with the remaining treasure shared equally between the rest, less Limnochs standing expenses. Also, an undertaking to Chell promising her access to Mort would do, before he is put down.'

'Happily, I happen to know a fighter too, one who couldnt be more suited to this task, and more than a match for Tomka. If the terms are fair, ill be happy to do the recruiting for you, offering the same terms for all.'

'But, if you think you can sell the, theres a shrine, lets sack it but let me keep the pricless gem deal, Ill do the introducing and, well, best of luck.'

'Finally, I have to say that if we do ignore your superiors advice, if numbers here are futher depleted, if a competent fighter is not found, that rather than return to prison ill be sitting this one out.'

'So, good Priestess, what say you to the equal shares for all deal? And, assuming there is no objection to that, we should discuss strategy... Chell seems to fancy dealing with the rivals first... I have my doubts about that, for one they are likely to be better prepared and more numerous, and secondly, they could be preparing to rob the shrine as we speak...'

Saamech folds his hands and listens in.

Post by The Dark Power on 7th August 2008, 8:01 am

'Your sarcasm begins to grate dear Saamech.

I think my Master would look ill on me if the allies I hold in Waterdeep amount to a godless thug and an escaped convict with nothing but a knife and dead mans boots.

The formers gone and the latter dangling by a thread.

Let us not forget, you both ran unto us by chance and are not under my employ. Tomka would've been dead by my hand if he hadn't started to talk. If recruiting for more thugs in the docks of Waterdeep is the best you can come up with then I think we can do without your help.

Skullport is where I would head - we know of the passageway leading there. I've no doubt we'll find allies more fearsome therein.

The deal is this - the gem goes to my master. It is our mission to retrieve it for the church.

Chell shall get our aid in her quest and Limnoch suitable recompense for that which he has lost.

Anything else in the temple shall be split evenly between us all, including the gold statue that you and Tomka stole and that my master now holds.

However, if you wish Saamech you may introduce us to your contact. If he turns out to be worthwhile then you and he may join us for the terms I have set out. We can discuss strategy once we have an accord.

If on the other hand it's another drunk, then you're out'.

"Ah yes, the gold statue. I believe I heard the priest say something about a reward for the gem? Yes? Yes I think I did. Business, indeed, Saamech. A commission if you will. Payment is offered for the work already, work favoured by the gods. Yes."

Chell tucks her grisly trophy away, still sitting on the floor leaning against the wall. She sniff derisively.

"City folk just as greedy as regular folk say. Even chattier."

She nods at Saamech. "More force is always good. Should hire some drunks and bruisers. More men means more arms. Most will probably die. Others can be killed, if the greedy want."

She gets to her feet, an act that wakes her resting hound. Slowly walking towards Sorscha, she pokes her forcefully in the chest, staring her down. "Am not "under your employ" anymore. New deal cut with your chief. Not owned by you, never was. Doing this because I want to. Don't presume, girl."

She pauses, grinding her teeth together a little. "If I don't get what I want, you pay." She then turns and addresses the room as a whole. "Less talking, more doing."

Sorscha bats Chell hand away and grins.

'Well that sounds like as close to agreement as we're going to get. So Saamech, are you joining us?

However, let me make this clear - I've never sought to lead any of you in this, to be thruthful I don't particularly want that degree of responsibility. I've always been happiest left to my own devices, but one does not question Gods will.

So why don't we all consider ourselves.....partners? in this...?

One thing to bear in mind though. If you're not under my employ, then you're under my Masters, it is after all his bidding that we are doing. Think which you'd prefer....'

Sorscha gets to her feet and begins strapping on her sword belt in expectation of leaving soon. Securing her helmet in place, she turns and looks at the rest of the group.

Saamech listens to Sorchsa with a bemused smile and after a moments thought, he looks up, face and tone genuine, without a trace of sarcasm for the first time.

'Well, if you put it like that Sorscha, I guess ill just have to come along. My apologies for any misunderstanding. Lets put it behind us.'

He stands up and walks stiffly towards the door, hefting a newish looking bag over his shoulder, and raising his eyebrows at the brewing altercation between the women.

'Im off to go and see about these reinforcements, ill introduce you to that warrior tonight, I believe he is staying at the Singing Wyvern in the clerks ward, if thats good for you?'

Saamech pauses briefly by the door to hear a response before nodding a farewell to the remaining persons in the room.

Sorscha nods uneasily at Saamech' unexpected change of demeanor, but nevertheless seems relieved that confrontation appears to have passed.

She grins sheepishly at Chell......

Chell narrows her eyes at Sorscha, studying her for a moment. She grunts and smiles wolfishly at the other woman before returning to her spot on the floor.

"Explain Bane, priestess. Nothing else to do while waiting," she says, rubbing Sister's head.

Relieved, Sorscha sits back down and happily regails Limnoch and Chell with tales of how the church of Bane saved her and brought order to her wartorn homeland.

Sounds of snoring slowly begin to drift out of Limnochs house.

Nearby, a passing zombie regards the house quizzically before shrugging and continuing onward, picking it's nose as it goes and gnawing on a piece of brain that had become dislodged.
