D&D - Eastern Heartlands - Beneath Myth Drannor

Post by ^^Truth on 13th February 2008, 7:37 am

With only dim light to go by, your skeletal silhouetted saviour appears to be completely frozen, the only sign of life from it, is the constantly dancing orange embers in it's hollow eye sockets, or perhaps it's the swirling shadows that wrap it's feet, almost watching you all in glee.

Several long, terrifying minutes pass as it remains stock still, unmoving, unblinking, unspeaking, until you all begin to wonder if it is truely there, if perhaps it, along with the unnatural coldness, along with that heavy fear in your stomachs, is just an illusion.

Then it's jaw moves slightly and from within a deathly hiss comes forth, "Occupations?"

"Dru.. druid..?" Asha replies sounding petrified.

The skeletal head then twists slightly, it's burning globes focusing on her, "Pagan" it states in displeasure.

Silence returns to the room, the skeletal being remains in the doorway making no move nor gesture, it just waits.

Videl stares at the skeletal figure in pure terror for a fairly long time, looking like he's about to faint. He constantly opens and shuts his mouth, trying to find the strength to speak.

"I-I'm a practicianer of the arr-arcane...sire," he finally manages, stuttering and whimpering.

"I-I am devout, I worshh-ship the Gods in their gluh-glory. I do nuh-not taint myself with violence, as the Gods wish..." he trails off, managing to smile brightly all the while, despite the soul-wrenching terror he's experiencing.

The ancient figure remains motionless as time passes, silence clings heavily across the small room. Finally, as Videl speaks, it's head slowly moves to look upon him with it's burning orange sockets.

"Spellbook"
the fear-inspiring figure demands of you, Videl.

Whilst waiting for Videl to retrieve his spellbook, the skeletal figure speaks again to you Videl, "Specialisation?" comes forth it's deathly hiss.

As you finally retrieve your spellbook Videl, it's quickly removed from your hands with an invisble tug. You all watch as Videl's book floats to the skeletal figure, then opens in front of it, the skeletal figure cranes its head to look upon the pages that are slowly turning.

Apart from it's previous question and the quiet turning of pages, silence again hangs in the air.

((I assumed you were going to give it your spellbook, Videl, if not lemme know and I'll correct with whatever you do.))

Mobius steps back cautiously in fear, sweat running down his face. "W-Wizard..." he replies to the Lich's question.

Mobius etches back towards Asha and Eithne, fear clearly across his face, which is evidently pale even through the dim illumination. He stands extremely tense, both hands clenched in a fist, as if he ready to strike back at the slightest disturbance.

Videl winces at every dread syllable uttered by the unholy skeletal thing.

"Summoning," he quavers at the thing in response.

He straightens up once his spellbook, the source of all his power, is snatched away from him and is purveyed by their unnatural captor.

"Wh-who are you?" he ventures.

"Spellbook" the speaking corpse than demands of Mobius. Like Videl, Mobius, once you have your spellbook out, it's gently taken from your hands to glide across the cold-stone room to hover in front of the skeletal figure.

"Specialisation?" it asks as the second book opens as the first did, both next to each other now, the skeletal figure appears to be studying both books similitaneously, a feat neither of you can currently comprehend.

"Bard..." Eithne then chimes in, as to not be left out, sounding perhaps a touch braver than most, but no less feared.

"Good" the skeletal figure then replies, looking from the books - which pause turning - to Eithne, it then looks to Videl, "Good" it then repeats to Videl, ignoring his question completely.

"Explain why you are to live" it hisses in deathly coils, sounding ultimately uncaring, it's burning sockets on the spellbooks
