Lars Vahtos of Moray

Post by #1! on 30th September 2011, 11:37 am

4th Level Human Fighter, Aged 33

Background
Lars was born and raised on a modestly prosperous farm on the isle of Moray. As the third-born son, he stood no chance of inheriting anything of worth from his father's estate. Thus, young Lars' options were few: learn a trade, join the faith, or seek adventure in the ranks of the local militia. Lacking in both brains and spirituality, he enlisted in the Duke of Moray's levies. Lars excelled in the martial arts and developed a distinguished career, particularly after nearly dying in the act of saving his liege lord from an assassination attempt. Recognized for his abilities, the grateful Duke promoted Lars to be his personal bodyguard. His tenure as ducal protector was a successful one until his master, elderly yet hale beyond his years, died suddenly and suspiciously. He was promptly succeeded by his nephew, his sole remaining heir who had been absent from Moray until the day after the Duke's passing. Frustrated by his suspicions behind his master's death, Lars was resigned to returning to the simple life of the solider. However, he received an unexpected windfall: a recommendation for service in the house of the royal family. The recommendation, jointly orchestrated by the new Duke and the old Duke's widow, stipulated a single condition to the low-born soldier: continued loyalty to the Duchy of Moray.

Current Status
Lars is currently the Sworn Shield of the Princess of Gwynneth, Evelyn Tianna Lucinna.

Same equipment as Mike's guy I think. 2 masterwork weapons, 1 masterwork armour then 200 GP to spend. One of the masterwork weapons could be a MW shield instead if you fancy. Cash left over is starting cash and no need to purchase a horse.

You fancy being 4th level instead of 3rd? You said you didn't wanna be too powerful, but it's really only +3 HP, +1 attribute, +1 BAB and whatever else, so really, there's just not the same sort of gap there used to be between levels.

I've taken 2/3 of my bonus feats from the standard feat list rather than the restricted fighter bonus feat list. I don't see how Diehard or Alertness would be considered un-fighter-y, but if anybody has issues, that's coo. Also, will be going for Toughness in the future I expect, also not listed on the fighter bonus feat list thing, weirdly.

Yeah, it's fine. To be honest, I saw you doing it and just did the same.

To be honest, that's how I do fighter feats myself anyway. I mean does anyone actually give a flying fuck if I take Run or Agile? You can fucking bet they don't.

I'll add a house rule in saying that fighters can pick from any feats with their class bonuses.

Wizards are suck with what they get.

Btw. I was going to suggest that if you didn't actually want endurance; or another feat in your list could wait, that Deflect Arrows may be a great feat for your guy, especially if the DMs allow you to use that ability on other characters within 5'.

To make sense, you'd only do it if you had a shield (or something like a shield?) equipped. Potentially adds a lot of toughness too, ignoring one missile hit/round.

(I was gonna take Deflect Arrows and use it like that myself, but it suited your guy tons more so I left off).

The shield-only Deflect Arrows sounds cool, but Endurance is also cool.

Argh, choices Sad

I've not been picking pictures from that Games of Thrones, or whatever.

Any picture is a coincidence.

I'll change your picture edited in a moment and upload. Replace if you wish.
